Cover letter
Dear Fastly Hiring Team,
Fastly sits at a genuinely consequential intersection: the infrastructure that makes the modern internet fast, secure, and programmable for the developers who build on top of it. That mission resonates with me directly — I spent three years at Intuit as a Staff PM owning the developer platform that scaled to 675M+ engagements, and I came away with a clear conviction that the quality of developer experience is not a nice-to-have; it is the product. I am applying for the Staff Product Manager, User and Developer Experience role because the scope — Control Panel UX, CLI tooling, IAM, and AI agent access — maps precisely to the work I have done and the problems I find most interesting.
## Technical and Platform Foundation
My platform credibility runs from infrastructure to interface. At Intuit, I owned the ICE (Intuit Cloud Engineering) developer platform end-to-end: I delivered the ICE Self-Service platform — DevPortal, GitOps configuration, and ICE Playground — reducing developer onboarding from two to three weeks down to minutes in pre-production and under 24 hours for production. I extended Java and Python SDK Starter Kits with scaffolding templates, Gradle/Maven build configurations, testing frameworks, and CI/CD integration so that developers could go from zero to a production-ready microservice in a single session. I also led an enterprise-wide Service Language Assessment across nine languages — Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, TypeScript, Scala, PHP, C++, and Groovy — synthesizing usage telemetry and developer feedback into strategic investment recommendations presented to the CTO. These are not adjacent experiences to Fastly's CLI and developer tooling roadmap; they are the same class of problem.
On the IAM and access side, I have shipped production auth and entitlement systems across multiple products. At Streamio AI and Fintellect, I designed and implemented Kinde OAuth 2.0, Apple Sign-In with custom deep-link schemes, Apple IAP with entitlement gating, and MAS sandbox entitlements with strict IPC allowlists and consent-gated data flows. I built an MCP server exposing screen-capture tools to AI coding assistants — directly relevant to Fastly's stated roadmap item around AI agent access and API token lifecycle management. The principle of least privilege is not an abstract security concept to me; it is something I have had to enforce at the application layer, the IPC layer, and the distribution layer simultaneously.
At Splunk, I owned Search Service (Go microservices), Search Catalog (PostgreSQL metadata), and SPL/SPL2 — building roadmaps and PRDs for a cloud-native platform serving Fortune 500 customers. I designed a repeatable RICE-based prioritization framework across three microservice backlogs, balancing internal partner, third-party developer, and enterprise customer requirements. I also delivered the Scheduler Service end-to-end in approximately four months, demoed at Splunk .conf19.
## Why This Role, Why Now
Fastly's platform is programmable by design, and the next generation of its developer experience — spanning Control Panel UX, CLI, IAM, and AI agent access — requires a PM who can hold the full stack in mind simultaneously: the developer workflow, the security model, the telemetry instrumentation, and the go-to-market narrative. That is the combination I have built across Intuit, Splunk, Kaiser Permanente, and my own products. The AI agent access and API token lifecycle work Fastly is scoping is particularly timely; I have been building in exactly this space with the OpenClaw multi-agent orchestration framework and MCP server integrations, and I understand the trust and access challenges that arise when agents — not humans — are the API consumers.
## Selected Relevant Experience
- **ICE Self-Service Platform (Intuit):** Delivered DevPortal, GitOps config, and ICE Playground; reduced developer onboarding from 2–3 weeks to minutes in pre-prod and <24 hours for production; mitigated $1M+ in projected opex growth.
- **Developer SDK Starter Kits (Intuit):** Extended Java and Python SDKs with scaffolding templates, build configurations (Gradle/Maven), testing frameworks, and CI/CD integration — enabling zero-to-production-ready microservice in minutes.
- **Platform Scale and Telemetry (Intuit):** Achieved 275% YoY growth in ICE engagements, scaling to 675M+ in FY23; used SQL and BigQuery to prioritize developer pain points across ~20 mobile apps and 30+ product SKUs; scaled throughput from 6K to 50K TPS via rSocket migration supporting ~1.5M concurrent connections with sub-25ms TP99.
- **IAM and Auth Systems (Streamio AI / Fintellect):** Shipped production auth across Kinde OAuth 2.0, Apple Sign-In, Apple IAP entitlement gating, MAS sandbox entitlements, strict IPC allowlists, and consent-gated data flows across macOS, iOS, and web surfaces.
- **AI Agent Access and MCP Server (Streamio AI):** Built and shipped an MCP server exposing screen-capture tools to AI coding assistants; implemented OpenClaw multi-agent orchestration framework with gateway protocol, subagent delegation, and profile management — directly applicable to Fastly's AI agent access roadmap.
- **Search Platform and Microservices (Splunk):** Owned Search Service (Go), Search Catalog (PostgreSQL), and SPL/SPL2 roadmaps for Splunk Cloud Services; delivered Scheduler Service end-to-end in ~4 months; led query performance initiative achieving up to 10x improvements for a Fortune 500 beta customer.
- **Enterprise Logging Platform (Kaiser Permanente):** Led development and rollout of Splunk Logging-as-a-Service at 1.7 TB daily volume across 200+ internal enterprise customers; built Redis-based caching capability for scalability and fault tolerance.
## Closing
Fastly's stated purpose — helping people stay better connected with the things they love by making the internet faster, more secure, and more programmable — is one I take seriously. The developer experience layer is where that purpose becomes concrete: if the CLI is clunky, if the IAM model is opaque, if onboarding takes days instead of minutes, the platform's technical capabilities go unrealized. I have spent twelve years making that gap smaller, and I would welcome the opportunity to do it at Fastly's scale.
Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to the conversation.
